It was news that family and friends of Trevor Underwood never thought they'd hear.
Last night, the 20–year–old died in a rollover crash.
Trevor just turned 20 a few days ago and tonight, there are no birthday celebrations. Instead, family and friends are mourning his death.
From the football field at Waverly high school, to snowboarding in Colorado, 20–year–old Trevor Underwood made the most of every minute. Family neighbor, Wally Burgeson says, “Trevor was just a really sweet kid in every way.”
Now, family and friends will only be able to see his smile in pictures.
Shortly after 11 Saturday night, Trevor and a friend were headed East on Saltillo road near 40th when they went into a ditch. Trevor, who was behind the wheel, was ejected after the car rolled multiple times.
The Lancaster County Sheriff's office says he wasn't wearing his seatbelt. His passenger was, but remains in critical condition at Bryan West. Trevor was pronounced dead at the scene…”Trevor was a fine young man, he was on his way up in the world.”
Wally Burgeson watched him grow up down the street and had something he wanted to give him…”I had this birthday card that I fixed for him 3 years ago and I kept calling him to come by and get it and the next 2 years, I re–dated it and signed it again…my name and dogs names.”
His friends are leaving their final messages, too on his Facebook page. Saying “rest in peace, Trevor..taken way too young..thoughts and prayers to the family.” “You had a great personality..you were always there for people, had a beautiful girlfriend who loved you with all her heart..you will be missed by many.”
And his girlfriend echoed just that…in three simple words, saying “I love you.”
“Trevor will be sorely missed by family, friends and everybody who knew him.”
The Sheriff's office is continuing to investigate the cause of the accident. They say alcohol is believed to be a factor.
