Election Commissioner talks turnout, where to vote

Anytime there’s an election, some big questions are how many people are going to the polls and where you go to vote.

The good news is Lancaster County Election Commissioner David Shively said chances are you’ll go to the same place you voted at in November.

“We only changed one polling site since the November election, so most voters should go to the same location unless they’ve moved since the last time they voted,” Shively said.  “And if they aren’t sure where they vote, they can certainly call our office.”

As far as turnout, Shively said he expects it to be bigger than they normally see in a city primary.

He said there were 19,000 early ballot requests and that as of Tuesday morning, 14,000 of them had been turned in.

He said he anticipates around a 25 percent to vote.

Aside from candidates, you’ll see the quarter–cent sales tax proposal on the ballot, which Shively said you should do some brushing up on.

“If they haven’t thought about it yet, they might want to take some time to read it before they go and prepare themselves to do their research before they cast their ballot,” he said.

Shively said they’re using the same vote counting method they’ve used for several years: an optical scan counter.
