Election in Nebraska village comes down to a tie between husband and wife
DENTON, Neb. (KLKN) – A tied election in a village outside of Lincoln ended Monday without having to draw lots.
Six candidates ran for seats on the Denton Board of Trustees this year; the three with the most votes would be elected.
But the Lancaster County Election Commissioner Todd Wiltgen said it was a tight race.
There was a tie for third place.
“But then there was also, in fourth place, the candidate was one vote behind the two candidates that were tied,” Wiltgen said.

What made the close contest more interesting is that the two tied candidates, John Juricek and Amanda Fangmeier, are married.
That tie, plus the one-vote difference between them and Tim Reckling, triggered a recount.
“So that’s what we did this morning at 10 a.m.,” he said Monday.
Juricek, Fangmeier and Reckling were at the meeting, as required by state law.
Wiltgen said the recount confirmed the previous results, which would’ve meant he had to draw lots to determine who won.
But before that could happen, Juricek left the meeting, withdrawing from the race.
“The outcome of the election has been certified, so we’ll be sending the certificates of election to the respective clerks and to the candidates who won, and they’ll take it from there,” Wiltgen said. “They’ll be responsible for forming their new Board of Trustees.”
