Ending the week closer to reality
A cold front swept through southeast Nebraska Wednesday afternoon, dropping temperatures 30° in a matter of hours. This will bring the Channel 8 viewing area closer to normal for the end of the week.
We will continue with mostly sunny skies but temperatures Thursday afternoon will be around 20° colder than Wednesday’s highs. That means high temperatures in the middle to upper 50°s.
Warm air isn’t the only thing leaving the Cornhusker state Thursday. So will the winds! Talk about some incredible wind gusts recorded around the region. The Lincoln Airport recorded a 58 mph wind gust Wednesday afternoon. Sustained winds remained in the 38-44 mph range for several hours during the afternoon. Wind gusts over 30 mph will ease after midnight.
Our attention turns towards the weekend where it looks to be wet. Long range computer models are very bullish on precipitation amounts, suggesting around 2.50″ of precipitation through the next seven days. The majority of that falling Sunday.
There still appears to be some potential for rain changing over to a wintry mix late Sunday night through early Monday morning. Many questions have yet to be answered with regards to precipitation type and how much. Stay tuned…
