LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – The man who killed six people at a home in Lincoln County nearly 50 years ago has died.

Erwin Charles Simants died at 77 while in custody at the Lincoln Regional Center, his lawyer Robert Lindemeier confirmed Tuesday.

In 1975, Simants shot and killed Henry and Audrey Kellie, their son David and three of their grandchildren at the family’s Sutherland home.

He was found guilty at his first trial, but the conviction was overturned on appeal.
