‘Everybody’s ready to battle what’s coming’: Nebraska DOT says it’s prepared for snow

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – After the snow on Christmas Day, Nebraska officials said Friday that they’re ready for round two.

Tom Renninger, operations division manager with the Nebraska Department of Transportation, said they’ve been monitoring the weather over the past few days.

He said plow crews are ready to clear roads across eastern Nebraska.

Renninger said that there are about 700 plows that cover the state and that drivers will work in shifts to keep the coverage nonstop.

“Salt sheds are full, the guys are ready, I think everybody’s ready to battle what’s coming,” he said.

Light snow is possible Friday and Saturday, but the chance for more accumulation starts Sunday evening and ends Tuesday morning.

Renninger said it can be hard to prepare when warmer weather comes before snow because roads will start out wet before freezing over.

“We want to be out before everything ices up, obviously,” he said. “We’re prepared for about everything that happens, and we’re ready to move resources wherever we need to move resources.”

Renninger said the crews will be focusing on the interstate and larger expressways before moving onto smaller streets.

He said if you plan on doing any driving, be careful and give plows extra space to do their job.

“I think we’re prepared,” he said. “We’re blessed in Nebraska with men and women that love to do what they do and keep the roads as safe as possible for the traveling public.”
