Excessive heat intensifies Tuesday with more possible storms
Very hot and humid weather in the forecast for Tuesday and Wednesday. If you can afford to move errands or activities to the morning hours each day, that would be best.
Most of the eastern half of the state will be within a Heat Advisory starting Tuesday afternoon and lasting until 8 p.m. Tuesday evening.
Far southeast Nebraska and Lincoln included in an Excessive Heat Warning starting Tuesday afternoon and lasting through Wednesday evening. Dangerous heat index values could be up to 113° through the most dreadful part of each afternoon.
An Excessive Heat Warning comes as prolonged hot temperatures are in the forecast with high humidity. Heat stroke and heat exhaustion (heat-related illnesses) become more likely under these conditions.
Temperatures in Lincoln on Tuesday will be on their way to the upper 90s and around 100 degrees.
With the heaviness added to the air due to the humidity, it’ll feel more like 104-111° during the afternoon hours.
Here’s an idea of what other locations nearby are expected to endure. Wednesday will look similar.
Strong to severe storms are possible again mainly toward northeast Nebraska, but Lincoln and some of southeast Nebraska included in the Slight (Level 2 of 5) risk for Tuesday evening. These later risks in the severe season become more conditional, but damaging wind and some hail will be the primary concerns. Update as of 8AM Tuesday: Northeast Nebraska was upgraded to an Enhanced risk due to increasing confidence in damaging winds. This is an update since our morning show.
A rather quiet day will then lead to more storm development possible in north-central Nebraska with those storms expected to move east into Iowa. There’s lower confidence but a chance that some isolated storms form closer to Lincoln and areas of southeast Nebraska after about 10-11 p.m. tonight.
There’s lower confidence but a chance that some isolated storms form closer to Lincoln and areas of southeast Nebraska after about 10-11 p.m. tonight.
Another risk for strong to severe storms across eastern Nebraska will be in the cards for Wednesday (looking at more of a Wednesday evening timeframe).
