Exeter woman killed in York County crash is identified

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – The Exeter woman killed Wednesday morning in a crash on Highway 34 in York County has been identified.

The crash happened around 10 a.m. at the west junction of Highways 34 and 81, according to the York County Sheriff’s Office.

Lucille Kennedy, 65, was heading east on Highway 34 when she entered the intersection and crashed with a semitrailer on Highway 81.

Kennedy was pronounced dead at the scene.  The crash happened just one day after a nearby collision claimed the life of a 71-year-old Grand Island man.

The sheriff’s office said there have been four deadly crashes in York County along Highway 34 in “little over a month.”

Sheriff Paul Vrbka has reached out to State Sen. Jana Hughes, who represents York County, to see if the state can provide safety features or equipment to the Highway 34/81 intersection.

He wants to meet Hughes soon “to see what can be done.”

“We can’t keep having accidents like this,” Vrbka said in a press release.
