Lincoln man gets call from scammer claiming to be holding family hostage

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – A Lincoln family was targeted in an extortion scam on Wednesday.
Police were sent to a house near Northwest 53rd and Holdrege streets for a possible home invasion.
A man received a phone call from an unknown male who said he was holding his wife and child hostage.
The caller also threatened harm if the victim didn’t tell him where they kept their money, according to LPD.
Police said the victim rushed home from work. Officers arrived to find everyone safe and sound.
LPD determined that the phone call was a scam.
The victim said the caller ID on the phone call showed his wife’s phone number.
