Extreme heat and gusty winds arrive Friday
Wednesday, a few isolated showers and thunderstorms may develop during the afternoon, especially in parts of eastern Nebraska. Patchy fog is also expected across portions of the state during the morning hours.
Thursday marks the beginning of a heat wave, with southwest winds between 5 and 15 mph.
Friday through Monday, conditions will turn hot and windy, with high temperatures soaring into the upper 90s and even reaching the low 100s. Heat index values could climb as high as 105°F+, prompting heat advisories statewide starting Friday.
Tonight, temperatures feeling cooler for everyone in the low to mid 60s out east and some low to mid 50s out west.
There will be quite a bit of moisture in the atmosphere still. Dew points will persist in the low to mid 60s, which will cause for some areas of patchy fog Wednesday morning.
Wednesday, temperatures will be a few degrees cooler for the state. Temperatures only getting into the lower 80s under partly sunny skies.
Through tonight, storm activity looks to remain out west. Some rain showers and thunderstorms will move east overnight into Wednesday morning. Wednesday afternoon, a few isolated showers and thunderstorms possible. After Wednesday night, get ready for the heat!

Next week: Rain and storm chances return by Monday afternoon and evening. Temperatures will drop back down into the upper 80s by next Wednesday with storm chances persisting.
