F Street Community Center hosts annual Juneteenth event

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — The F Street Community Center hosted its 4th annual Juneteenth celebration on Saturday.

The center said the annual event is held as a way for the Lincoln community to celebrate and remember the true meaning of Juneteenth.

The event featured activities like basketball, live music, and free haircuts.

Husker football players attended Saturday’s event and signed autographs. They also spoke about the importance of the holiday.

Assistant Director, Jerry Taylor said “This holiday is very important to the community here in Lincoln. It’s a time when we put focus on freedom and unity and the importance of freedom and having the opportunity to go and explore and become the best person you can be. If we had it our way we’d celebrate the whole month of June.”
