Fairbury City Museum to host Military Room Grand Opening
FAIRBURY, Neb. (KLKN) — The Fairbury City Museum, 1128 Elm Street, is hosting the Grand Opening of the Military Room Exhibit on Saturday, Sept. 12, 2020, from 1 to 4 p.m. The public is invited to attend the event.
The museum has been collecting and becoming the repository of many pictures, uniforms, and artifacts since the museum was founded. The displays follow the early history Nebraska including artifacts dealing with slavery and soldiers that fought in the Civil War and the creation of the Grand Army of the Republic organization.
One of the great discoveries in creating the displays was that most of the rifles were from the came collections and were used around the time of the Spanish-American War. Another discovery was a collection of photographs, including pictures of the 2nd Nebraska Regiment with many Jefferson County soldiers.
Currently displayed in the Military Room Exhibit are pictures, weapons, uniforms, artifacts, and pictures from World War I, World War II, Korean War, Vietnam War, Desert Storm, Iraq, Afghanistan, and on into the present day.
