Families celebrate Fourth of July weekend at YMCA adventure run
238 participants took their marks at the YMCA Youth Sports Adventure Run, as kids and parents took their best shot at the obstacle course.
LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – 238 participants took their marks at the YMCA Youth Sports Adventure Run, as kids and parents took their best shot at the obstacle course.
“There’s lots of obstacles!” seven-year-old Logan Fisher exclaimed.
Of the more than 14 obstacles at the run, kids say there was a clear favorite.
“The slip-and-slide!” seven-year-old Bowen Porter said.
The YMCA hosted three adventure runs on Saturday morning, with funds raised from the events going to the YMCA Strong Kids campaign, which helps benefit families who cannot afford youth camp programs.
This is the ninth year that the YMCA has hosted the adventure run. The event is usually held on July 4th weekend, but last year’s got postponed due to COVID–19.
Parents are happy that it’s back this summer.
“It’s just great to be able to get out and enjoy the day and the weather and do something as a family,” Katie Fisher, a mother of six, said. “It’s just a fun activity for kids and kind of showing them the importance of getting outside and having fun and exercising at the same time.”
Todd Johnson of the YMCA of Lincoln says he’s thrilled that they could hold the adventure run once again this summer.
“It was a tough year for everybody,” Johnson said. “We’re just happy. Last year, we had to do this on Halloween, because the Fourth of July was really uncertain times. So for us to be able to see 238 people who want to share this holiday now that everything’s kind of back to normal is just an honor for us at the YMCA.”
