Family, friends and co-workers hold fundraiser for Lincoln man who lost home during March flooding

Brian Zimmerman is a salesman at J–Tech Construction in Lincoln.
He was surprised to find out that his workplace invited the community to come out for a game night fundraiser on Saturday to help him find a new home.
Zimmerman is a single father working two jobs to pay bills.
Back in March his house near Waterloo was completely ruined by flooding.
“I wasn’t even able to get home for about a week. When I got home a week later, the house was absolutely destroyed and unlivable. Everything from the walls to the foundation, it’s really unfortunate that it happened. I lost everything, I walked out with maybe some clothes and that’s it,” said Zimmerman.
Zimmerman says when he did make it home his refrigerator was in the living room, his dresser was in the kitchen and water was four feet high.
After his workplace found out that the March floodwaters claimed his home, they wanted to find a way to help.
“Brian is a very selfless guy. He did a lot of things for other people and when we found out that his house was un-salvageable we knew we had to do something for him,” said co-worker Julie Parker.
Friends, family and co–workers got together and planned a game night fundraiser for Zimmerman, held at J–Tech Construction.
There was a silent auction, cake walks, bingo, poker, shuffleboard and more.
And most importantly, all the proceeds go to Zimmerman.
“They kind of just set this up behind my back, I really didn’t know about it. Once I found out, I just couldn’t tell you how much I cried and how good it felt. I’m really lucky and fortunate to be surrounded by such good quality people and caring people,” said Zimmerman.
Co–workers say that Zimmerman deserves all of it.
Julie Parker is quick to tell the story of when Zimmerman gave away his husker spring game tickets to a mother and her children after noticing they had lost theirs.
Parker says that’s just the kind of guy Zimmerman is.
