Family of four escapes car before it bursts into flames

(KHGI) A family of four made it out of their vehicle safely before it became fully engulfed in flames on Wednesday morning.

Fire Chief Jason Wiehn with the Shelton Volunteer Fire Department said the driver reported having issues with his rear tire while they were driving down Interstate 80.

Wiehn said the tire blew out, and the driver pulled off I-80 at the Shelton exit to check on the car.

He said the heat from the tire ignited the side of the vehicle, and another adult and two children were able to get out before the car became fully engulfed.

No injuries were reported during the incident.

Firefighters said they had the fire extinguished within 15 minutes, but they said the car was considered a total loss.
