Fans swarm Omaha’s CHI Health Center for NCAA games

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – From Lincoln to Des Moines, basketball fans descended upon Omaha Saturday to see NCAA games at the CHI Health Center.

Iowa State took on Washington State, and many Cyclone fans, like Scott and Teyona Steenhoek, agree it was close enough to make the drive and a lot better than watching the game on tv.

“We came from Prairie City just east of Des Moines,” Scott said. “Easy drive. This is our fifth March Madness tournament and there’s nothing like the experience. The atmosphere. We enjoy supporting the Cyclones.”

Duane Asbe, a lifelong Iowa State fan, drove over four hours for the game.

He hopes the team makes it far, but he’s taking it game by game.

“They’re really playing well right now,” Asbe said. “They’re really connected from coaching staff on down to the bench. They get along so well together, they’re just a fun team to watch.”

Jennifer McIntyre said her son plays basketball at MIT, and she enjoys “the fun of the sport.”

“The friendships we’ve made over the years have been wonderful,” she said. “We’ve had some wonderful coaches who have really supported our kids. ”

Leo Milan said he’s always loved college basketball.

“There’s something about the NCAA tournament with all the fans from different schools coming into the arena to cheer on their team,” he said. “It’s just a vibe.”
