Far warmer with wind Monday, then late storms
Warmer temperatures Monday morning were helping us to ease into this next week, starting out about 15-20 degrees warmer than Sunday morning. A big reason for this is some stronger south to southwest winds developing that are only expected to increase throughout the morning.
Once we get a few hours of sunlight to help mix stronger winds down to the surface, we’ll be looking at gusts up to 45-50 mph in eastern Nebraska. Again, expecting this particularly in the late morning to early afternoon ahead of a cold front that will have lighter winds out of the northwest behind it.
But with this strong southerly flow, temperatures will fly to the upper 70s to make for a very warm Monday. This week will be bookended by the warmest temperatures with a slight cooldown in the middle.
Initially, a first round of storms expected as soon as tonight. After a passing cold front, some isolated storms on the weaker end will be possible after sundown. This activity continues into early Tuesday before some scattered light rain will come to an end by sunrise.
With an update this morning, the Thursday risk has extended northward into south-central Nebraska. The Storm Prediction Center has a 15 percent risk of severe weather possible especially in that area that includes parts of Kansas, Oklahoma and Texas.
Friday’s severe weather potential looks to be closer to home. Much of eastern Nebraska under that 15 percent risk for severe weather to end the work week, as Thursday and Friday only begin an active period through the weekend.
Friday into Friday night at this point looks to be the greatest threat for severe weather, but additional rounds of storms are possible this upcoming weekend, too.
