UPDATE: Police release identity of woman killed in east Lincoln crash

UPDATE: Lincoln Police identified the victim of the crash as Heather Bodfield, 26. Bodfield is listed as a transient on the police department’s accident report.
One woman has died after a single vehicle crash near 77 & A Streets early Thursday morning.
A passerby called the accident in to Lincoln Police shortly before 1 a.m.
When police arrived, they discovered the driver was the only person in the car and shut down a portion of A Street to investigate.
Police called in Lincoln Fire and Rescue to pronounce the woman dead at the scene.
It’s unclear how long the car had been there, or what caused the driver to veer off the road.
“The preliminary investigation shows the vehicle was westbound on A street and left the roadway for an unknown reason and collided with a tree,” Captain Ben Kopsa said.
An autopsy will be done to determine the woman’s official cause of death.
The area of A Street that was closed has now been reopened.
