LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – Have you ever wondered where your poop goes?

Well, plenty of people plunged into the history of Lincoln’s wastewater facilities on Sunday to learn more.

The city is celebrating 100 years of wastewater cleaning at its Theresa Street facility.

The Lincoln Transportation and Utilities Department held free tours to show the public all of the steps to cleaning water before it’s put into Salt Creek.

The superintendent of the facility, Todd Boling, said cleaning the water helps keep everyone healthy.

LTU estimated that around 500 people attended the event.

“I think it’s awesome,” Boling said. “People have lots of questions. Hopefully, we entertained everybody with what we do for a living and also educate them on why we’re here.”

Boling said the city is planning to expand the wastewater facility in the next few years.

LTU currently cleans around 25 million gallons of water per day in all of the city’s facilities.
