Federal board investigating fatal Fremont plant explosion
LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — A federal agency announced this week that it is investigating the explosion that killed three people in Fremont.
The U.S. Chemical Safety and Hazard Investigation Board is looking into the blast at the Horizon Biofuels plant.
“This horrific incident should never have happened,” Chairman Steve Owens said in a press release. “We want to prevent a terrible tragedy like this from occurring again.”
Dylan Danielson, 32, and his two daughters died in the explosion.
The Nebraska State Fire Marshal Agency determined that the cause was an accidental dust explosion.
The Chemical Safety and Hazard Investigation Board does not issue fines or citations.
It can only make recommendations to companies or agencies.
The Occupational Safety and Health Administration is also investigating the explosion.
