Felipe Vazquez now facing murder charge in 2020 slaying

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – Felipe Vazquez, who was convicted in May for the murder of LPD Investigator Mario Herrera, is now facing another murder charge.
On Wednesday, a first-degree murder charge was added to the lawsuit over the stabbing of Edward Varejcka in 2020.
Two counts of use of a weapon to commit a felony were also added. The 19-year-old was initially charged with second-degree assault.
A trial date has not been set yet.
According to an arrest affidavit, Lincoln Police were sent to a home near 22nd and Y Streets on a report of a stabbing.
Officers arrived and found Varejcka with multiple stab wounds. First responders attempted life-saving measures, but he ultimately died from his injuries.
Witnesses told officers that three men had entered the apartment demanding a phone, which led to an altercation.
One of the men then pulled out a kitchen knife and used it to stab Varejcka multiple times in the upper torso, according to the affidavit.
During the struggle, someone threw a TV at Varejcka, which the affidavit says led to his death.
Investigators found Vazquez’s fingerprints on a TV, which gave officers probable cause to arrest him.
Vazquez is already serving a decades-long prison sentence for his murder of Herrera. He will serve at least 71 years before he could be paroled.
