Few spotty mix chances; winter late this weekend

Countdown to the men’s and women’s NCAA tournament games continues as both are set to play on Friday. A fun look toward the forecast for both Memphis (for the men) and Corvallis (for the women) shows a look at some rain possible at both locations.

If you’re planning on cheering in Memphis around the FedEx Forum arena, count on a pleasant day with light wind and temperatures in the lower 70s. Rain chances increase on Friday with some showers possible around the time of the game just before 6:00 p.m. CDT, so pack some rain gear!

Ncaa Tournament Men

Up in Corvallis, Oregon, the women will tip off later on Friday night (about 9:30 p.m. CDT) at Gill Coliseum with a washout of a weekend in store. There’s a chance for some rain with mostly cloudy conditions on Thursday before rain will be likely on Friday and for much of the weekend. Highs will be around the upper 50s to low 60s.

Ncaa Tournament Women

Back here at home, our precipitation chances are minimal through the end of the work week. You may see a few sprinkles/flurries early on Thursday, with a spotty chance for some like rain on Friday morning as well. Thanks to some southeasterly flow returning, temperatures will be near normal on Thursday.

Next 2 Days

Over the weekend, a bigger storm system will be brewing. The best chances for rain, thunderstorms and some snow come with this system arriving into Sunday. Freezing rain could mix in at times, too, on Monday. We likely won’t see a transition to snow until the second half of Monday with some possibly lingering into early Tuesday.

Longer-range models still show the potential for about a half inch to an inch and a half of total precipitation (both rain and snow liquid equivalent) through the next 7 days.

Qpf Model Comparison

With some snow possible Monday into Tuesday, long-range models show about a half inch possible at this point. We’ll be interested in seeing what short-term models say as we get closer, but keep in mind that Monday’s commutes both morning and evening could see impacts.

Snow Potential Gfs Vs Euro Numbers

It’ll be a sloppy start to next week, but we get moisture out of it!
