Norfolk Catholic crushes Fillmore Central in semifinal game
NORFOLK, Neb. (KLKN) – No. 1 Norfolk Catholic defeated No. 4 Fillmore Central 42-14 on Friday in the Class C-2 semifinals.
Both teams came into the game undefeated, but the Knights proved why they were No. 1.
It was a rough game for the Panthers. They didn’t register a first down until the second quarter.
In the first quarter, on the first drive for the Knights, Trevin Sukup took the handoff and went right up the middle for the touchdown.
In the second quarter, the Knights were up 21-0.
Then quarterback Carter Janssen dropped back to pass and fired a shot to a backpedaling Hayden Kelley for the touchdown.
Later in the second, after an interception, the Panthers were looking for a spark. They found it on a trick play.
Trevor Roach took the pitch, then reversed it to Jarin Tweedy, who threw a pass to a wide-open Kade Cooper for the score.
But the celebration for the Panthers was short-lived.
The Knights marched down the field and scored on a trick play of their own.
Janssen threw backward to Max Hammond, who threw downfield to an open Sam Speidel.
The Knights move on to the championship game against Ord on Nov. 21 at Memorial Stadium.
