Final cooler day, nightly storm chances going forward
There may be some instances of fog developing again by Tuesday morning, as temperatures continued to cool overnight. Another overcast day overall will lead to our final cooler day before we warm right back up on Wednesday.
Those in western Nebraska will start to see the warmer temperatures as soon as today. Highs in the middle 80s to lower 90s are in the forecast out toward the Panhandle. Meanwhile, blanketed by cloud cover once more, eastern Nebraska will be on the cooler side.
Starting Tuesday evening, storm chances will increase nightly. For this evening into early Wednesday, a Marginal (Level 1 of 5) risk is now in place for more of the state – namely, across southern Nebraska. Gusty winds and some hail will be the primary threats.
Scattered storms develop in the Sandhills before making their way into central and eastern Nebraska long after the sun goes down. Timing from one of the latest versions of Stormcast can be played out below.
But Wednesday evening and night could feature a stronger round. The potential is there, especially if we see some clearing across southeast Nebraska first during the afternoon.
All severe hazards (an isolated tornado, large hail and damaging wind) will be possible into the early morning hours of Thursday.
The latest update from the Storm Prediction Center has southeast Nebraska in a Slight (Level 2 of 5) risk for the potential severe weather.
These storms could be firing as soon as the late afternoon and evening but strengthening by Wednesday night and into the overnight hours.
Stay weather aware in the coming days as we work to provide frequent updates for these events. We’ll be quieter with sunny days turning to Thursday and Friday.
