Fire at vacant home west of Lincoln sparks arson investigation, deputy says

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – An arson investigation is underway after flames destroyed a vacant home west of Lincoln on Thursday.

The fire was reported just before 4 a.m. at an abandoned home near Northwest 56th and West Holdrege streets.

The home was fully engulfed in flames and its considered a total loss, Chief Deputy Ben Houchin said.

The Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office is working with the State Fire Marshall to investigate the suspected arson.  There’s no word yet on what caused the fire.

The home had been unoccupied for some time and there were reports of damage at the home before the fire started, according to Houchin.

The homeowner estimates the total damage at $350,000.
