Fire forces evacuations at Lincoln apartment building in below freezing conditions

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — More than a dozen units responded to an apartment fire near South 56th Street and Shady Creek Court on Monday.

It was reported just before 7:45 a.m.

Crews fought flames in the basement, but multiple floors needed to be evacuated, and firefighters called for a second alarm.

The fire started in a dryer and caused up to $15,000 in damage.

Lincoln Fire & Rescue said no one was hurt, but three residents have been displaced.

Officials contacted the Red Cross to help find them somewhere to stay.

The temperature was hovering around 20 degrees in Lincoln while this was going on.

LFR reminds everyone to clean the lint from dryers after every use.
