Fire Leaves Many Homeless

Residents of a Lincoln apartment complex are homeless after a fire early Sunday morning destroyed most the building where they lived. It happened at the Lion's Gate Apartments near 50th and Vine Streets. The fire started around 1:30 a.m. and took about an hour to contain. Firefighters worked to put the fire out throughout the early-morning hours. Eyewitnesses say the fire started on the third floor center balcony and then spread to the second, causing the roof to collapse. Everyone was safely evacuated from the building and no residents were hurt. However, one firefighter suffered minor injuries battling the blaze. He was treated and released from the hospital. Fire officials are still investigating the cause of the blaze.  Arson is not suspected. Preliminary damage estimates are being put at around 1 million dollars.
