Fire prompts evacuation of nearly 700 students from eastern Nebraska elementary school
LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – Several students were evacuated from Schuyler Elementary School on Thursday after a fire torched the roof.
About 1:45 p.m., the Schuyler Fire Department was sent to the school, and the David City Fire Department was also called in for backup.
The fire started on the roof, and crews were able to knock down the blaze quickly, according to Fire Chief Brad Sock.
Sock said the school evacuated about 700 students.
There is still no word on how the fire started or how much damage it caused.
The blaze comes right before a long weekend, as students are off until Tuesday for Easter break.
