Fire scare in Lincoln caused by furnace being started for the first time
LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — More than a dozen units were called to a reported fire in Lincoln on Friday morning, that turned out to be a timely reminder.
Someone was starting their furnace for the first time and a light haze began filling the room.
This happened near South 27th and N Streets just before 7:30 a.m.
Lincoln Fire and Rescue says this happens when dust that’s built up over the spring and summer months burns off.
It can lead to air quality issues as well. One person was taken to the hospital to get checked out.
LFR says they should be fine and there was no actual fire. Officials stress this is why it’s important to change your furnace filters and get an inspection before turning it on.
