Firefighters put out Lincoln house fire

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — A fire broke out Tuesday night at a house in Lincoln’s Near South neighborhood.

The fire was reported about 9:30 p.m. near 23rd and Garfield streets.

Multiple 911 callers said they saw flames coming from the roof of the home, according to Lincoln Fire & Rescue.

Battalion Chief Jim Bopp said the first crews on scene saw heavy fire on the back side of the house and called in more help.

Most of the blaze was on the second floor, Bopp said, but it also spread to the attic.

Firefighters extinguished the flames and cut a hole in the roof to make sure the fire in the attic was out.

Everyone made it out of the house, and no one was injured, according to LFR.

But Bopp said the residents will be displaced.

The cause of the fire and the extent of the damage is still under investigation.
