First 90° day in August for Lincoln likely
While skies and conditions will be clear in eastern Nebraska Thursday morning, dense fog will be problematic out west for areas of central and western Nebraska.
A Dense Fog Advisory is in effect for most counties below until 10 a.m. CDT Thursday. For the eastern edge toward the Kansas border, that advisory will be in effect until 11 a.m. CDT Thursday.
A southerly breeze will try to help today, but already a balmy start to what will likely go down as our first 90° day in August later.
As temperatures heat up to about 90° on the eastern side of the state, the other side will climb to about 100°.
The humidity will make it feel worse to end this week.
Those that will deal with triple-digit “feels like” temperatures for more of the afternoon are under a Heat Advisory from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday evening. More of us in eastern Nebraska may see heat alerts for Friday.
Friday will be really hot and humid with temperatures increasing to the upper 90s. The heat index will be in the lower 100s for a longer portion of the afternoon tomorrow.
There will also be a risk for severe weather in Nebraska on Friday due to a cold front moving east. A Marginal (Level 1 of 5) risk bumps up to a Slight (Level 2 of 5) risk over northeast Nebraska with the main threats of hail and damaging wind with storms Friday evening into the night.
Milder August temperatures come back for this weekend, with Sunday looking a little cooler with better rain chances by then.
Another risk for severe weather highlights southeast Nebraska on Saturday, though storm coverage is up in the air for Nebraska’s part in this. A Marginal (Level 1 of 5) risk is in place for an isolated chance at any storms threatening gusty winds and hail.
We’ll warm back up to 90° toward the first day of school next week.
