First day of spring, but slow to warm
That last blizzard targeted specifically south-central Nebraska up through eastern Nebraska, with sharp cut-offs in snow totals on the edges (March 18-19, 2025).
There was a sharp cut-off even within Lancaster County, from higher totals nearing about 5″ in the north to a lot less in the south. Reports near and from Beatrice have been around 1-1.2″.

Thursday, March 20th, marks the start of spring!
We’ll have just about equal hours of daylight and night today, but then the hours of daylight will really increase as we head toward summer. Average highs by then are in the upper 80s by the end of spring!
Be careful early this morning, however. Icy conditions with temperatures well below freezing after the slushy snow has led to black ice and slick spots as you’re walking about or commuting. Take things slow to begin the day.
The sun does come back for the entire day today, with southwest winds developing.
It’ll be a slow warm up with some snow on the ground initially, but temperatures return to near normal on Friday.
There’s a small chance for some rain to come through late Friday afternoon into the early evening, especially up toward northeast Nebraska. It’s more likely that weak thunderstorms miss us east in western Iowa than for us to see much of anything from this.
Snow on the ground at this time of the year doesn’t last long – and temperatures in the 60s over the weekend will help!
Another late chance for rain Saturday night into Sunday won’t lead to much moisture either.
Stronger winds do come back on Sunday, potentially gusting up around 45-50 mph once more.
