First mayoral debate between Cyndi Lamm and Leirion Gaylor Baird

On Monday, the first mayoral candidate between Cyndi Lamm and Leirion Gaylor Baird was held at The Graduate.

Republican candidate, Lamm, and democratic candidate, Gaylor Baird, started the debate with a big question: is the city of Lincoln financially healthy?

With both Baird and Lamm on the city council, they have some different incite and ideas on how to better the city.

“We need new fiscal policy, we do need to embrace free market principles and we do need to invite an environment where every individual and business has opportunity to succeed,” Lamm said.

“If you look at economic opportunity and development, we need to be thinking about continuing our innovative partnerships to the extent that we have strong partnerships in the community to make our limited resources go further,” Baird said.

Taxes, the city’s infrastructure and debt were the focus for the majority of the debate.

Although the debate was short, both candidates were able to talk about issues they are passionate about.

“My opponent is the same as Beutler, I’m the candidate of change because I am going to institute more conservative principles, free enterprise and so forth,” Lamm said.

“I think I was able to make clear my priorities are public safety and infrastructure that supports the economic development of our community, and we didn’t get a lot of time to talk about quality of life measures, but those are important as well,” Baird said.
