First-grade OPS teacher arrested for sexual assault of a child

A first-grade teacher at an Omaha elementary school has been arrested for sexual assault of a child, school officials say.

Eric Nelson, the principal at Fontenelle Elementary School sent a letter home to parents Monday night stating: “This evening, the Omaha Police Department arrested a Fontenelle Elementary first grade teacher for sexual assault of a child.”

The teacher, 30-year-old Gregory Sedlacek, was placed on administrative leave following reported concerns of inappropriate contact with a student.

Sedlacek was arrested and booked into the Douglas County Jail after 6 p.m. Monday.

Child Protective Services and local law enforcement were made aware of the situation and the school says they are cooperating with the investigation.

At a press conference Tuesday, Omaha Police Sergeant Tracy Scherer said the incident that lead to Sedlacek’s arrest occurred on the playground of Fontenelle Elementary School on Nov. 20 and was caught by the school’s security cameras.

The student involved was a 7-year-old first grade girl.

Scherer also said that based on an interview with Sedlacek, she expects there are more victims.
