Firth man arrested in Waverly crime spree, sheriff’s office says

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – A Firth man is behind bars after a crime spree in Waverly earlier this month, the Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office said Wednesday.

Christian Randels, 19, was arrested on suspicion of felony theft and possession of burglar’s tools.

Chief Deputy Ben Houchin said Randels was involved in a rash of vehicle break-ins, vehicle thefts and an attempted burglary of an ATM at First State Bank in Waverly on Aug. 2.

One of the vehicles stolen, a Ford F-450 pickup truck worth $140,000, has since been recovered.

“He went on a huge crime spree, and this was a very good one to get off the street,” Houchin said.

Investigators think there was another person involved in the thefts, and an investigation is ongoing.

The sheriff’s office is also working with the Lincoln Police Department to see if Randels was involved in a string of attempted ATM burglaries in Lincoln.
