Five departments work to put out grass fire in eastern Nebraska

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – Osceola Fire and Rescue worked with several other crews Thursday to put out a grass fire in eastern Nebraska.

The department reported the grass fire on Facebook just before 5:30 p.m. in the bluffs between K and L roads, 5 miles south of Silver Creek.

The National Weather Service made crews aware of the fire, allowing trucks to get to the scene quicker.

Silver Creek Fire & Rescue, Stromsburg Volunteer Fire Department, Shelby Fire and Rescue, and Polk Fire and Rescue also responded to the blaze due to the difficult terrain.

Two agriculture companies worked to cut fire lines with their tractors and scrapers, while another helped get water tenders to the area.

Officials said the fire was cut off before reaching the cedar trees in the bluff line.

The department said hot spots will continue to be monitored.
