South Lincoln house fire sparked by charging of damaged device, LFR says
LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — Crews put out a house fire Wednesday night in south Lincoln.
About 7 p.m., Lincoln Fire & Rescue was sent to a home near 27th Street and Coronado Drive.
Firefighters found heavy flames coming out of two windows, according to LFR Battalion Chief Robert Watton.
The fire was under control in about 15 minutes, LFR spokeswoman MJ Lierman said.
One person who was outside when firefighters arrived was treated for injuries, Watton said, but did not need to be taken to a hospital.
Five people were displaced.
Watton said two cats were missing. He thinks they escaped when firefighters entered the house.
The fire caused $150,000 in damage. The charging of a previously damaged device appeared to have started the blaze, according to Lierman.
The homeowner, Caitlin Aguilar, said she came home and smelled burning.
As she approached the bedroom door, she could hear it crackling.
“It spread really, really fast,” Aguilar said.
