Five German shepherds mauled woman on run west of Lincoln, deputy says
LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – A woman was injured Saturday when several dogs attacked her west of Lincoln, the Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office says.
Around 8:45 a.m., a woman was running near Southwest 33rd Street and Pleasant Hill Road when five German shepherds got through a fence.
Chief Deputy Ben Houchin said the dogs knocked her to the ground and mauled her.
A witness drove up and started honking at the dogs, and the owner called them back to the property.
The victim had puncture wounds to her face, neck, head and arms. She was taken to a hospital for surgery, Houchin said.
“It’s one of the most severe attacks I’ve ever seen in 31 years,” he said.
The owner of the German shepherds was cited on suspicion of five counts of dog at large.
Houchin said this is the second time these dogs have attacked someone.
On Dec. 17, a couple were walking near the property when the dogs surrounded them and bit one of them on the hand, according to Houchin.
The dogs have since been placed in the custody of the Capital Humane Society.
“We’re in the process of determining what we’re going to do with the dogs,” Houchin said. “Nothing has been decided yet.”
