Flooding aftermath: Two men lend a helping hand to a family in need

Corey and Julie Reed have driven the roads to their home in Waterloo countless times, but as they run through rushing water and deteriorating roads they were in need of help.

As a recovering cancer patient, Julie needed her medication but left it behind in a rush to evacuate their home as flood waters neared.

The couple was brought back to their home for the first time since last Thursday, the home they had been living in since 2008.

“It’s devastating, I had a nice lawn before and now we have about 3 foot dunes in there now and the sand is everywhere,” said Corey.

The foot of water in their home had gone down, leaving the floors inside very muddy. Julie was able to grab her medication, all in thanks to two men with an air boat.

“One person tells another one, hey he’s got boat, and then everyone comes together and you know wherever we are needed, we try to be there,” said Leeland Harvey.

Leeland and Brian both own businesses. They have been putting everything on hold since the flooding began.

“I have never seen this much water, just everywhere you look.” said Harvey. “It was like the perfect storm, with the ice, rain and snow melt and until you get out, you just don’t realize how bad it is.”

In the meantime, Corey and Julie have been staying at a hotel. They can’t thank Leeland and Brian enough for their time in need.

“We were ready to pay for it and I’m told these guys just do that out of the gracious of their heart.” said Corey. “They are amazing.”
