Foggy with flurries especially west early on, then warmer into New Year’s weekend

Winter weather alerts have come to an end, but with some clearing and light winds this morning, areas of dense fog are forming.

A Dense Fog Advisory has been issued for northeast Nebraska and areas west of Lincoln through at least 10 a.m. Thursday morning, if not the early afternoon. Areas of rapidly forming dense, freezing fog have kept visibilities below a mile, with some slick areas on roadways possible under these conditions.

Dense Fog Advisory

If it isn’t fog making things harder to see, some light to moderate snow in south-central Nebraska will eventually wrap up later this morning. Hastings reported another inch from snowfall early Thursday. That will just about do it for accumulating snowfall across the state, putting an end to a very active week.

We’ll see some more sun  Thursday, but it’ll cloud up more by this afternoon and evening. Wind chills will again be in the teens and lower 20s.

Day Planner W Wind Chill Pivot

A lot of us will be looking forward to some good days warm enough to melt the snow coming up. That’ll look likely with a lot more sun and warmer temperatures Friday and Saturday.

4 Day Temps

But by late Saturday into Sunday, a reinforcement of cold air comes pouring in from the north across Nebraska. Highs will only be in the upper 20s for Lincoln on the last day of 2023.

It’ll be a cold cheers to the New Year coming up with wind chills (above) in the single digits hovering a bit above zero degrees by midnight.
