Following positive staffers, a Beatrice school goes remote
,
BEATRICE, Neb. (KLKN) — Lincoln Elementary School is moving to Tier Four Remote Learning beginning Wednesday.
The decision was made by Beatrice Public Schools, in conjunction with Public Health Solutions and Beatrice Community Hospital, after several staff members tested positive for COVID-19. Remote learning is scheduled to continue until Tuesday, September 1st. This means in-person class is expected to start back-up Wednesday, Sept. 2nd, barring any changes.
All other buildings in the district remain in Tier Two with in-person attendance. However, due to the possibility of more COVID-19 cases throughout the district, Beatrice Public Schools will require the use of face coverings effective immediately without an opt out option.
The bus shuttle from Lincoln Elementary to Stoddard Elementary will still be in operation with students reporting outside to the northeast side of the building.
Several parents talked to Channel 8 News reporter Alexa Skonieski on their thoughts of their students working remotely.
“As a parent, I am glad they are thinking about the kids. They’re not just going to keep pushing it and probably spreading it more” one parent said. She appreciated the quick response and the honesty from the school district.
Another parent said this is just the beginning of what’s to come this year.
“It’s going to be a wild year I think, this is going to happen all year long. I really don’t see them going back in two weeks” she added, if another teacher tests positive in these two weeks or a student then the whole process will just restart.
The Superintendent spoke out on their decision to move Lincoln Elementary remote for a couple weeks. Jason Alexander said they are working with health officials and using contact tracing to get to the bottom of the problem. The district will continue to monitor cases in order to keep all students safe.
