Former David City wrestling coach accused of sending inappropriate texts to student

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – A former girls wrestling coach in David City sent a series of sexually charged text messages to a student, court documents say.
In an arrest warrant filed Monday, prosecutors charged Jeremy Andel, 37, with third-degree sexual abuse by a school employee and child enticement.
The investigation began on May 14, when the parents of a 16-year-old girl reported “inappropriate text messages” to the David City Police Department.
The arrest warrant affidavit alleges that Andel, a girls wrestling coach at David City Public Schools at the time, had sent over 1,700 texts to the girl since September 2023.
The girl was not on the wrestling team, according to the affidavit.
Andel’s phone was seized by investigators and sent to the Nebraska State Patrol to analyze the data on Oct. 9.
Police received the analyzed data from the patrol on Jan. 24.
As of Thursday, Andel has not been taken into custody, according to court records.
He is not listed on the David City Public Schools’ staff page.
