Former History Nebraska director found, now facing up to 20 years in prison

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — Former History Nebraska Director Trevor Jones has been located and served with criminal citations.

Jones was charged in June with theft by deception of over $5,000, court documents say.

He could face up to 20 years in prison.

According to an affidavit, Jones transferred $270,000 from History Nebraska to a new foundation that he was running.

Jones resigned from the agency in May 2022, according to the Nebraska Examiner, and said he would be moving to France.

When authorities couldn’t find him, they issued an arrest warrant.

He is set to appear in Lancaster County Court on Aug. 24.
