Former Husker ace Shay Schanaman signs with Atlanta Braves

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – Nebraska pitcher Shay Schanaman is heading to the MLB despite not being selected in the draft.
The Grand Island native signed as an undrafted free agent with the Atlanta Braves on Wednesday.
He is the fifth Husker from last season’s team to make it to the majors, following Brice Matthews, Max Anderson, Emmett Olson and Jace Kaminska.
In 2023, Schanaman went 3-6 with six saves, along with a 3.07 ERA. He finished the season with 66 strikeouts and 28 walks in 55.2 innings pitched.
Schanaman ended his collegiate career tied fifth for the most pitching appearances (79) and strikeouts (247) in the program’s history.
