Former Husker center dies in fatal car crash

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – A former Nebraska center died in a crash in rural Polk County on Sunday morning.

The Polk County Sheriff’s Office responded to a call at about 6:42 a.m. on a report of a pickup between some trees at 141st and Q Roads in rural Polk County.

The driver, 32-year-old Cole J. Pensick of Columbus, was traveling west in a pickup truck when authorities say he failed to stop at the stop sign, leaving the roadway. It came to rest in some trees.

Pensick was pronounced dead at the scene.

Seat belts were not used, according to authorities.

The crash is still under investigation.

Pensick played in 36 games from 2010 to 2013 for the Huskers, starting in 14.
