LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – Nebraska Athletics will be getting a new voice in the broadcasting booth.

On Tuesday, Greg Sharpe announced on “Sports Nightly” that Damon Benning would fill the vacancy left by Matt Davison.

“I’m excited to represent the state,” Benning said.

The former Husker will join Sharpe in the booth for Saturday’s game against Purdue.

“I love Nebraska. Sometimes I debate with my family who comes first, but ultimately, I begrudgingly land on family. But it’s close,” Benning said jokingly.

Benning played under legendary Husker coach Tom Osborne from 1993 to 1996 and won two national championships with the team.

He previously spent time as an analyst at the Big Ten Network.

Last week, Davison announced he would leave his role in the athletic department to help launch a new name, image and likeness collective for Husker student-athletes.
