Former Husker football player killed in head-on crash east of Lincoln

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – The Cass County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a fatal crash 25 miles east of Lincoln.

On Sunday afternoon, deputies were sent to the intersection of Highway 34 and 310th Street for a head-on collision between an SUV and semitrailer.

The initial investigation determined that the driver of the SUV swerved into the eastbound lanes of Highway 34 and hit a semi.

The SUV driver, 53-year-old David Noonan of La Vista, was pronounced dead at the scene.

According to authorities, the driver of the semi, a 58-year-old Lincoln man, was taken to Bryan West Medical Center in Lincoln with minor injuries.

The crash is still under investigation.

Noonan was a defensive player on the Nebraska football team from 1989 to 1993.
