Former Husker linebacker pleads no contest to assault in bar fight
LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — A former Husker football player pleaded no contest Tuesday in a fight at a Lincoln bar.
Mitchel Reeves, 41, was found guilty of assault causing bodily injury, a misdemeanor.
He was initially facing a felony count, but the charge was reduced in exchange for his plea.
Court documents say the assault happened on St. Patrick’s Day at Down the Hatch near Northwest First Street and West Fletcher Avenue.
Shortly after 10 p.m. on March 17, Reeves got into a fight with another customer, police said.
When a bartender stepped in to separate them, Reeves punched the bartender and a “disturbance ensued,” according to court documents.
The bartender suffered a broken nose.
Reeves is set to be sentenced on Sept. 20.
He played linebacker for Nebraska in 2003 and 2004.
