LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – The Omaha Supernovas are bolstering their roster with a former Husker middle blocker.

On Thursday, Leyla Blackwell — who played in 13 matches for Nebraska last season — signed with the Omaha Supernovas.

She spent her first season of professional volleyball with the San Diego Mojo.  In her rookie season, she had eight starts, scoring 47 points on 33 kills, 10 blocks and three aces.

At Nebraska, the San Diego native averaged 2.35 kills per set on a .417 hitting percentage, along with putting up 29 blocks.

“I am so excited and beyond grateful to be joining the Omaha Supernovas for this upcoming season,” Blackwell said in a news release. “Getting to return to the state of Nebraska and continue to be a part of the volleyball community here is a dream come true. NovasNation are some of the best fans in the country and I cannot wait for this new chapter to begin.”

Since the free agency period opened up in the Major League Volleyball, the Supernovas have made 13 different signings, including former Husker Merritt Beason.

Another former Husker has also joined the organization: John Cook.  Earlier this month, the team announced Cook as its new co-owner and general manager.
