Former Husker volleyball assistant hired as Team USA head coach

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – The U.S. National Volleyball team on Monday announced Erik Sullivan as its new head coach.

Sullivan has a wealth of experience at the women’s collegiate level, including three seasons at Nebraska as an assistant coach under John Cook (2008-2011).

While Sullivan was at Nebraska, the Huskers put together an 86-13 record with two Big 12 titles and a trip to the Final Four in 2008.

He was a big part in the development of two-time AVCA All-American Brooke Delano, who led the Huskers in hitting (.406) and blocks (1.42) per set in 2010.

When Sullivan left Nebraska, he had a lot of praise for the program:

“I am very appreciative of the opportunity I’ve had at Nebraska,” he said. “I loved being a Husker and it was a tough decision for my wife and I to leave such a wonderful program that is made up of great people.”

Sullivan went on to Texas where he was an assistant coach for the last 14 season. He helped lead the Longhorns to eight Final Four appearances and three National Titles.

Jordan Larson, Kelsey Robinson Cook and Justine Wong-Orantes are the three Huskers that played for Team USA in the most recent Olympics.

Team USA will start their season on June 4 in Rio De Janeiro for the 2025 Volleyball Nations League.
